Can I remain in France after I graduate and for how long?

European students:

If you are a national of a member country of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, you can live and work freely in France after your studies without needing a temporary residence permit.

Non-European students :

If you are a non-EU/EEA/Swiss national, you can stay in France after your studies under certain conditions:

  • If you have a promise of employment or an employment contract paying at least 1.5 times the minimum wage, you can apply directly for an “employee” or “temporary worker” residence permit.
  • If you haven't yet found a job, you can apply for a “job-seeker/business creationresidence permit, valid for up to 12 months, to look for work or start your own business. To be eligible, you must hold a Master's degree, an equivalent diploma or a professional license.
