Programme
The BTS Real Estate Professionals is a state diploma at 2-year degree level which can be taken by young people who have completed two years of preparation in a high school, a CFA or a business school. As its name suggests, this BTS enables the training of real estate professionals, specialists in property negotiation or management. If you want to become a real estate agent, negotiator, property manager or open your own business, this programme is for you. Here is our guide...
As the BTS Real Estate Professionals is a national examination, all courses leading to this diploma must correspond, in terms of teaching, to the reference system imposed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MESRI). We shall see that there are, however, different teaching approaches between institutions.
The programme of this BTS is made up of so-called "general education" courses (general culture and expression, economics, accounting and administrative management, professional communication, English applied to real estate...) and courses dedicated to the acquisition of knowledge and technical skills essential to the exercise of real estate professionals:
In terms of professional training, a minimum of 10 weeks of internship is compulsory, but you should know that certain Grandes Ecoles such as IPAG allow their students to do an internship in a company every year or to do their training in apprenticeship. It can never be said enough, but learning through work experience is essential so that you can immediately put into practice the knowledge and many skills you have acquired during your studies. A work-linked BTS enables you to spend a lot of time in a company and therefore quickly familiarise yourself with rental management, the sale of a property or the management of a co-ownership.
You can complete your course:
The cost of training is higher in these private higher education institutions but is often justified.
At the IPAG, on the Nice campus, the BTS Real Estate Professionals courses are taught by experts recognised in this professional environment, whether they are estate agents, consultants to real estate companies, managers of a management firm, real estate negotiators, lawyers specialising in real estate transactions, etc. By passing on to you their experience in the field, they help you acquire cutting-edge technical skills that are particularly appreciated by real estate agencies, consulting firms or property administration firms.
Likewise, a real estate course at a Grande Ecole allows you to build up an address book and to gain access to the school's many partners in the real estate business. An invaluable asset for your professional integration. Needless to say, you will also be well supported when you are looking for an internship or a professional training contract as part of an apprenticeship.
Finally, obtaining a degree from a university opens many doors, not only to various professional activities, but also to other training courses if you wish to continue your studies.
This training is preferably accessible to holders of a Bac Général or STMG (Sciences et Techniques du Management et de la Gestion) but holders of a Bac Professionnel Administration-gestion or Métiers du commerce et de la vente can, with an excellent record, enter the BTS Real Estate Professionals.
The selection procedure is more or less demanding, depending on the establishments to which you apply. At IPAG, your application file is studied by a selection board, then you take tests and an interview of around 30 minutes to check your motivation and aptitudes.
Bachelor's degree in Real Estate Professionals
Once you have a BTS in Real Estate Professionals, you can either enter the job market in your field of specialisation or continue your studies.
In the first case, be aware that there are a variety of career opportunities. In two years, you have acquired many skills that will enable you to work as a real estate agent, property administrator, property manager, property negotiator, real estate development worker, etc. In addition, once you have obtained your diploma, you are eligible to obtain two essential professional cards: the G card (Rental property management) and the T card (Transaction) which allows you to open your own estate agency.
If you wish to continue your studies once you have obtained a BTS Real Estate Professions, you can logically pursue a Bachelor's degree in Real Estate Professionals (Titre RNCP) in a private higher education institution. At the IPAG, this 3rd year of study in the BTS-Bachelor's course in Nice enables you to train professionals in commercial property and real estate internationally. You will learn how to prospect for and negotiate real estate internationally, familiarise yourself with the legal status of commercial leases, analyse the commercial property market, etc.
To conclude: if you are interested in these jobs, if you are motivated, have a good sense of contact and excellent interpersonal skills, everything will go well for you, so go for it!
