Dual degrees are increasingly popular with French students as they allow students to study two topics or qualifications in tandem, for example, you could get a degree from an international business school and one from a respective partner university. In a single year, students will be able to claim a diploma from their home school and obtain a diploma from another French or foreign establishment.
But what is the point of doing a dual degree? At the end of their studies, graduates with dual degrees leave education having acquired knowledge and skills in two different areas of expertise, which can be a real asset for the future when competing for jobs.
Dual degrees are typically done at master's degree level courses such as an MBA, but more Bachelor’s level dual degree options are becoming common among higher education institutions.
These courses generally concern all specialities and topics. That means you can find dual degrees in the fields of design, computer science, media, human resources, science, business, law and much more. This can be used in a variety of ways, for example, many engineering students decide to complete their studies by carrying out a dual diploma in partnership with a management school, to later aim for positions such as engineer managers.
By academic agreement: This is when the course is the result of a partnership agreement between two establishments, generally located in two different countries, where students will go part of their course at each establishment, either split up in years or academic terms.
Dual degrees have a very good reputation. More and more business schools or IAEs (management schools) offer them, often in partnership with equally prestigious universities around the world.
Besides, it's a great investment! t the end of a dual degree programme, you will have obtained two diplomas without completing an additional year of study. This allows students to obtain two master's degrees in just one year the IPAG Master and a Master of Science (MSc) in International Finance from the University of Greenwich in London.
In addition, students can also benefit from tuition fees negotiated with the host university or are eligible for scholarships.
"A dual degree is the promise that the student is persevering and hard-working. Preparing for two diplomas necessarily means accepting a higher workload. So it’s a very good signal to employers", says a career expert and writer at WritingMetier. In fact, a large number of dual degrees are international, which means that the students registered have a very good level of language. Indeed, as we have seen, it is quite common for one year of the course (or even two) to be completed abroad, in partner establishments, where the courses will be taught mainly in English. It also testifies to the adaptability and open-mindedness of the graduate from such a career.
In addition to the higher employment rate, graduates with a dual degree can claim better wages (10% higher on average than those of students from a “traditional” background), and international careers.
