It is possible to work in France after obtaining a French diploma under certain conditions.
Foreign students who just obtained a diploma which is, at least, equivalent to the master's degree and who wish, in the perspective of a return to their native country, to complete their training by a first professional experience in France, may receive a provisional authorization of stay of 6 months. This provisional authorization is nonrenewable.
This first profesional experience must participate (directly or indirectly) in the economic development of France and the country of origin of the student.
A residence permit is issued upon expiry of graduates’ “student” temporary residence permit.
Application for a temporary residence permit must be made in a French prefecture, at the latest 4 months before the end of validity of the current "student" residence permit.
During the duration of the temporary residence permit, young graduates are authorized to seek, and when appropriate, to work in a position that is directly connected to the training they received.
For they first professional experience, they must receive a remuneration, the amount of which must be of at least one and a half times this of the French minimum salary (SMIC) ie € 2,015.65 gross monthly as of January 1, 2010.
Depending on their employment situation, young graduates may be authorized to work throughout the territory or in one or more geographical areas.
- Note : until the conclusion of the contract in connection with their training and corresponding to their first professional experience, young graduates holding a residence permit also have the right to work as students (up to 60% of the duration annual work after prior declaration by the employer to the prefecture which issued the authorization).
